2JZ & 1JZ to CD009 Transmission Swap Compatibility Guide

Short answer: Autosports Engineering makes a dedicated CD009 adapter kit for 2JZ and 1JZ engines going into a Toyota Supra MK4, Lexus IS300, Lexus GS300, Lexus SC300, or Nissan 240SX (S13/S14) chassis, plus a combo kit for 350Z-based builds. We also build CD009 kits for 1UZ/2UZ/3UZ V8 swaps. Every kit uses the same core recipe β€” billet 6061 aluminum adapter plate, matched flywheel, and the hardware to bolt a CD009 six-speed behind your engine β€” with chassis-specific mounting and shifter options.

What's in the base kit

Every CD009 adapter kit starts with the same core components:

  • Billet 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum adapter plate
  • Matched flywheel
  • Transmission crossmember and mount (chassis-specific)
  • Pilot bearing and bearing rings
  • All mounting hardware

From there, most kits offer add-on options depending on your build: front or rear-mount shifter, clutch disc configuration (single vs. twin disc), and slave cylinder setup (Tilton or Wilwood, LHD or RHD). For the full step-by-step install process, see our Complete Install Guide.

Common questions

Do I need a single disc or twin disc clutch?

It comes down to torque. A single disc setup is the simpler, lower-cost option and holds up fine for mild-to-moderate power builds. Once you're pushing serious torque β€” the kind of numbers a built 2JZ can make β€” a twin disc setup holds power without the chatter or rotating mass penalty of an oversized single disc, which is why it's the common choice for drift and high-HP street builds.

Front mount or rear mount shifter?

This is mostly about shifter location relative to your chassis's factory shifter opening and console. Front-mount kits reposition the shift linkage forward; rear-mount keeps it closer to the CD009's stock location. Which one you need depends on your specific chassis and console setup β€” if you're not sure, reach out with your chassis and engine bay photos and we can point you to the right option.

What bearing option should I choose for the adapter plate?

Bearing choice affects long-term durability and shift smoothness under load. We offer multiple bearing configurations for the CD009 adapter plate β€” the right one depends on your power level and how the car will be driven (street vs. track/drift).

LHD or RHD, and does slave cylinder brand matter?

Slave cylinder options (Tilton or Wilwood) and bore sizing (3/4" or 7/8") depend on your clutch master cylinder and pedal setup. Left-hand-drive (LHD) and right-hand-drive (RHD) chassis need different slave cylinder orientation β€” make sure you select the correct one for your chassis when ordering.
