A Hall-effect cam and crank sensor kit for the 2JZ and 1JZ, built to give a standalone ECU a clean, repeatable trigger signal in place of the factory VR (variable reluctance) sensors. Both sensors and the billet mounting brackets are included — machined and anodized in-house in Lakeland, Florida from US-sourced 6061-T6 billet.

  • Hall-effect sensors for both crank and cam position
  • Billet 6061-T6 sensor brackets, machined in the USA
  • Deutsch connectors and terminals
  • Sensors included — brackets are not sold separately
  • Uses the factory trigger wheel and cam teeth — no machining required
  • Suits any standalone ECU that accepts a digital trigger input

Why Hall-effect instead of the factory VR sensors

A VR sensor generates its own voltage, and that voltage scales with engine speed. A Hall sensor is a switch — it fires on the edge of the trigger tooth at whatever rpm the engine happens to be turning. What that buys you:

  • No minimum cranking speed. A VR sensor needs enough rotational speed to make its own trigger voltage. A Hall sensor doesn't, which matters on a slow crank with low battery voltage.
  • No ignition timing float. The ECU triggers on the same physical point at 200 rpm and at 9,000 rpm, rather than on a voltage threshold that moves as the VR waveform changes shape with rpm.
  • Resistance to electromagnetic interference. A digital square wave is far harder for ignition noise to corrupt than a low-level analog waveform.
  • Little or no signal filtering required in the ECU.
  • Immune to target runout, and rotational alignment to the target is not critical.
  • High-speed operation up to 15 kHz.
  • Faster starts, easier cam and crank syncing, and fewer trigger errors in the log.

Who this kit is for

Builders and tuners running a standalone ECU that either requires a digital trigger input, or that struggles to read the factory VR signal reliably — noise, low signal voltage at cranking, or trigger errors that show up under load or after a cam swap. It is a signal-quality upgrade, not a power adder.

Trigger wheel compatibility

Works with both factory trigger arrangements:

  • Non-VVT-i: 12-tooth crankshaft trigger wheel and factory cam teeth
  • VVT-i: 36-2 crankshaft trigger wheel and 3-tooth cam triggers

No trigger wheel change, no machining, and no modification to the front cover in either case.

Wiring and tuning are yours

The kit supplies the sensors and the brackets that locate them, terminated in Deutsch connectors. Trigger mode, edge selection, offset and cam sync are all set in your ECU software, and the engine must be timed and verified against a light after installation. ASE does not supply base maps or trigger settings for third-party ECUs.
